March 3, 2023

A very warm welcome to the players and supporters of Gosport Borough Football Club, who this weekend will visit the Avenue Stadium for our latest clash in the Southern League Premier Division South (KO 3.00pm).

Ahead of the game, Dorchester Town assistant manager James Wood said his side are determined not to let their season “fizzle out”, after the Magpies recorded five losses in their last six league games.

Wood said Dorchester are “fully focused” on beating a Gosport side in what he expects to be a “very difficult” game.

Brief history of The Boro

Formed in 1944, the Boro' have spent most of their history flitting between step nine and seven of the English football league pyramid.

The last decade was arguably the most successful period for Gosport. The club achieved National League South football for the first time and enjoyed a trip to Wembley, in the final of the FA Trophy.

The Gaffer - Mark Molesley

Dorchester fans will be very familiar with former Weymouth manager Mark Molesley. After departing the Terras in 2020, the 41-year-old has enjoyed spells at Southend United, Aldershot Town and his current employers, Gosport.

Molesley took charge at the Boro’ in November, replacing Shaun Gale. As the club’s Director of Football he has full responsibility for all football matters throughout the club.

Ones to Watch

Striker Dan Wooden is currently Gosport’s top scorer (13) in the league and will be keen to add to his two goals he bagged against the Magpies earlier this season.

Elsewhere, Gosport can point towards a wealth of experience in their ranks, including former professionals Matthew Briggs and Danny Hollands.

Form Guide

The Magpies - LWLLL

Dorchester’s form has stuttered in recent weeks after a promising start to 2023. The Magpies will be keen to return to winning ways, and add Gosport to the list of sides which have left the Avenue pointless this season.

The Boro - DLLWL

Gosport, like their hosts, come into Saturday’s game with just one win in their last five outings.

Last Time We Met...

Last October, Gosport snatched a point against the Magpies in an entertaining 2-2 draw. Goals from Alfie Stanley and Kieran Douglas had given Dorchester a 2-0 lead, before two headers from Wooden ensured the points were shared.
