Winger Sam Bayston becomes second new signing

Dorchester Town Football Club are pleased to announce that Sam Bayston becomes our second new signing of the summer having committed to The Magpies for the 2020/21 campaign.

The winger makes the move from Wimborne Town, where he has spent the majority of the past five seasons, as well as previous spells with Hamworthy United and Poole Town.

On his latest signing, boss Leigh Robinson said: “Wide midfield is an area that we’re keen to strengthen to compliment the work that Tom Blair does on one flank. Sam’s got a decent goals and assists record in this league but as well his undoubted quality on the ball he’s a real worker off the ball.”

“A key part to improving the side this year is for everyone to be better off the ball so Sam’s honesty and work rate will go a long way to helping this.”

Speaking on joining The Magpies, Bayston – who will link up with former teammates including Franklyn Clarke, Billy Lowes and Sam Poole – said: “I’ve been with Wimborne over the past five years and last season was massive for me, scoring 10 goals and getting 12 assists. I wanted to build on that and have an even bigger year this year, so when Leigh spoke to me and the plans he had for Dorch and myself personally, I was very excited.”

“Dorch is a huge club with a massive history and fan base. While I leave Wimborne with a heavy heart, I am just as excited to get going with this huge club and hopefully have a big impact on moving this club forward with the new regime.”

“I’ve never worked with Leigh before but have spoken with others who have, and they’ve spoken very highly of him. He’s been fantastic with me when we have spoken on the phone and the plans on the way he wants his team to play was a big factor for me.”

“Being a wide man, I love to attack, beat players and carry the ball up the field, so having a manager who wants you to be dynamic and creative is a huge boost for a player like me.”
