Match report | Blackfield & Langley (A)

Match Report:

By: Terry Spracklen – Dorset Echo Sport

Dorchester slipped to their second defeat of the season at Gang Warily as Charlie Gunson’s spectacular strike 11 minutes from time earned the hosts a place in the third qualifying round of the FA Cup.

The main talking point will be the 30th minute off the ball challenge by Blackfield & Langley’s Skipper, Harry Medway, which resulted in an off balance Jack Hoey crashing into the perimeter rail and advertisement hoardings and sustaining a broken arm.

Dorchester fans protested when Medway was only shown a yellow card for his actions. Play was suspended for 15 minutes but Hoey was able to gingerly walk off the pitch before being taken to hospital by car.

Dorchester, who were without injured duo Kyle Egan and Luke Winsper, threatened first but Hoey ran the ball out of play as he rounded his marker.

Sam Griffin failed to take advantage when Hisham Kasimu’s cross eluded Shane Murphy. A foul on Hoey presented a free kick opportunity to Dorchester but Charlie Davis struck the defensive wall.

Kasimu worked space for himself but his low effort rolled well wide. Murphy then punched over a fierce shot from Lerone Plummer.

A patient Magpies build up then ended disappointingly as Hoey failed to find a team mate. Tom Blair drove into the penalty area and his low attempt hit the side-netting. Antonio Diaz cleared the crossbar from 20 yards while Kasimu did likewise at the other end.

Tom Bath and Diaz were ready to accept any spillage when Blair’s looping cross tested Lewis Noice but the home keeper made no mistake.

Kasimu again fired over and with the ball temporarily out of the ground, referee John Pike signalled a water break in the 21 degrees of late September heat.

After play resumed, Murphy saved at his near post from Kasimu. Then with the ball heading out of play for a throw- in, Medway’s crude challenge sent Hoey flying into the perimeter hoardings with devastating effect.

Cameron Sangster replaced Hoey as the clearly shaken Magpies struggled to make an impact.

Plummer, Griffin and Kasimu all wasted chances for the Hampshire side but in first half stoppage time, Blair forced a fine save from Noice who clawed aside a firm drive. From the resultant Charlie Davis corner, Bath headed over.

There was a busy but goalless start to the second half. Bath’s looping header from a Davis centre flew over for Dorchester while three shots in rapid succession from Kasimu were blocked.

Noice saved low shots from Blair and Diaz while Murphy denied Kasimu. A Davis free kick was then headed clear while Griffin fired over for the New Forest side. Diaz played a one two with Sangster but shot weakly at Noice who then saved with an outstretched foot to frustrate Bath.

The game was settled 11 minutes from time when Murphy’s throw to Davis was intercepted by Gunson who let fly from 35 yards to find the top corner. Kasimu had another near post attempt saved by Murphy while substitute Luke Rae hit the Dorchester side-netting.

Blackfield & Langley were then handed a great chance to wrap up the tie when Callum Rose was adjudged to have impeded Plummer. But Murphy again demonstrated his prowess in saving spot kicks and amazingly Plummer skied the rebound over the bar from six yards.

There was not much left in the tank for Dorchester as the home side comfortably saw out the remaining minutes although Rose had a late shot blocked on the edge of the six-yard box.
