Chairman’s preview | Beaconsfield Town (H)

Read new chairman Scott Symes’ programme notes ahead of our opening match of the season against Beaconsfield Town this afternoon…

Welcome everyone to The Clayson Stadium this afternoon for our opening league fixture of the 2019/20 season.

I hope you’ve all managed to get away for a holiday or have plans to soon.

Since taking over the chairmanship of this fantastic football club I have been overwhelmed by the support, warmth and best wishes that I received from everyone, thank you.

It’s been an extremely productive pre-season both on and off the pitch here at the club. A big part of that pre-season has been working very closely with Callum to support his vision and recruitment of players over the pre-season, and for Cal and his coaching team to have achieved what they have in pre-season has been outstanding, the recruitment has been as to plan, which is no mean feat in football, but the biggest achievement has been the building of the positiveness and togetherness of the group and this is there to be seen in training and in our pre-season games.

A key part of the boards short to medium term plans was to enter the season with a fully aligned DTFC community both on and off the pitch and in a short space of time we have had as a group I am proud to say we are well on the way to achieving that, and I can promise you that will remain the focus of our efforts as we continue to grow that vision and culture into 2019 season and beyond.

The board have also focused through the pre-season working smartly to maximise all our commercial income streams to get the right balance of those finances to Callum, his management team and players, with the vision of bringing enjoyable and successful times to The Clayson Stadium, with the ultimate aim of playing our football in the National League South, but we must achieve this whilst maintaining a sustainable financial plan. We are ambitious but also realistic about progression towards our targets both on and off the pitch, we will have ups and downs, but it’s how you maximise and enjoy the ups and learn quickly and support each other on the downs which will ultimately allow us to reach our overall objectives.

Please remember this is a community club, your club and I know we can build a progressive positive culture amongst everybody in the DTFC community, the board, the playing squad, our employees, our volunteers, our football youth members and families, our ability counts programme and most importantly our supporters, which when we get it right, everyone involved can be part of a successful future for the club.

Enjoy today’s game.
