Manager’s preview | Beaconsfield Town (H)

A first look at boss Callum Brooks’ pre-match programme notes ahead of our opening fixture of the brand new 2019/20 season against Beaconsfield Town tomorrow afternoon (KO 3:00pm)…

Good afternoon,

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you all to The Clayson Stadium for the opening match of our 2019/20 Southern Premier League campaign. A further warm welcome goes to the players, staff and supporters of our visitors this afternoon, Beaconsfield Town FC.

I sit writing these notes reflecting on what we feel has been an extremely positive closed and pre-season period at the club. If you break pre-season down into key areas such as Recruitment, Building Fitness, Implementing Tactical Frameworks, Improving Systems, Performances and Results then without doubt we are where we wanted to be ahead of the first match.

All of the things that I have just mentioned are hugely important, vital in fact, however unless the overall environment of the football side of the club is one of positivity, togetherness and enjoyment it can be difficult to maximise the benefits of being productive in these key areas.

So yes, we have been working relentlessly on the technical, tactical and physical side of the game. Yes, we have worked hard to recruit well and early on this occasion, and yes, we have had a challenging and progressive games programme. But at the heart of all of this we have been trying to create and develop the environment that we want at Dorchester Town FC. An environment where players and staff can’t wait to arrive for training and games, where senior players help us to develop talented youngsters, where players are confident enough to express themselves, where players and staff get to know supporters properly, where players representing the club have an affinity with the fabric of this great football club.

I am sure that the above could come across as slightly idealistic but what clubs have ever achieved success by constant improvement without having a proper environment, culture and foundations to support their efforts first? Possibly just the clubs that have had the finance to blow everyone else out of the water and that’s not an option to us!

Squad wise we have everyone fit and raring to go, which leaves me with the best kind of headache known to a football manager. The result of that headache will enter the pitch at 2.55pm this afternoon! However, we all know that football is a squad game now and each of our 18 will have a big part to play in the months ahead.

To finish I would like to urge every one of you to get behind the boys this afternoon and for the long season ahead. There will no doubt be plenty of ups and downs and when the downs occur, we need to stick together, just as we need to celebrate the good moments.

I cannot wait to get our season underway and I hope you feel the same way. We are not here to make up the numbers and together we can achieve anything.

Please get behind our boys this afternoon.

Enjoy the game
