Match preview | Bridgwater Town (H)

By: Tom Berry | @TJBerry95

Dorchester Town Football Club will welcome the players, supporters and officials of Bridgwater Town Football Club to The Clayson Stadium for this pre-season friendly fixture (KO 7:45pm).

Who are The Robins?
Reformed in 1984 after the liquidation of the previous Bridgwater AFC, The Robins quickly stead themselves and won promotion back to the Western League in just 10 years after reforming. After finishing as Premier Division runners-up in 2006–07, Bridgwater were promoted to Division One South & West of the Southern League. A third-place finish in 2009–10 saw them qualify for the promotion play-offs. Although the club defeated VTFC 3–0 in the semi-finals, they lost 4–3 to Cirencester Town in the final. They finished bottom of Division One South & West in 2016–17 and were relegated back to the Premier Division of the Western League.

One to Watch
Former Weston-super-Mare and Yate Town defender Jamie Laird has recently made a return to the Somerset club. Laird, son of former Magpies boss Craig, was part of the squad that reached the Southern League Division One South & West play off final in 2010 before making the step up to the then Conference South with Weston.

Team News
As with most friendlies at this time of the year, a few trialists will take their place amongst the Magpies squad. The beginning of pre-season also means a few absentees from the normal match day squad, with various players still to return to training as a result of other commitments.
