MATCH PREVIEW: Dorchester Town v Wimborne Town

BY: Tom Berry | @TJBerry95

Dorchester Town Football Club will welcome the players, supporters and officials of Wimborne Town Football Club to The Clayson Stadium tomorrow afternoon for this Evo-Stik League Southern Premier South fixture (KO 15:00).

Who are The Magpies?
Formed in 1878, Wimborne were founding members of the South Hampshire and Dorset FA as well as the Dorset FA a few years later. They played in the Dorset leagues for a number of years before being founding members of the Dorset Combination in 1957. They entered the FA Cup for the first time in 1982 and managed to reach the first round proper before losing to Aldershot.

The clubs finest moment came in 1992, when they won the FA Vase at Wembley, defeating Guiseley 5-3 to win the trophy. They secured promotion to the Southern Premier in rather unconventional circumstances, as despite being defeated in last season’s play-off final, a restructuring saw them promoted after the demise of Northern club Shaw Lane.

One to Watch
Former Magpies striker Toby Holmes has scored a sensational amount of goals since signing for Wimborne in 2016. He won the Golden Boot for the division below in the two seasons he has played at that level and has continued to net goal after goal since promotion in the summer.

Have We Met Before?
The two sides have already met three times this season. Twice at Wimborne and once at the Clayson. The early season league clash saw Dorchester 4-0 up at half time, winning 4-2 overall. Whilst the two FA Cup fixtures saw a last gasp Callum Rose equaliser secure a replay, which Dorchester comfortably won 3-0.

Form Guide
Wimborne won their Boxing Day fixture, heavily defeating Poole Town 5-2 at Tatnam. Prior to this, a 3-0 defeat away to Walton Casuals was followed by a late equaliser for a 1-1 draw at home to Farnborough.

Dorchester have lost their last three league fixtures, two at home and one away. The two home fixtures saw a 3-0 defeat to Swindon Supermarine before Boxing Day’s heart-breaking 1-0 derby loss to Weymouth. The sole away fixture saw The Magpies go down 2-1 to Metropolitan Police.

Team News
Ross Carmichael was taken off as a precaution in the Boxing Day defeat to Weymouth and will hopefully be fit for the Wimborne clash. Brennan Camp could be in contention for his first start if Carmichael is unable to take his place in the starting line up.
