Ben Seymour scores penalty as Dorchester Town rock Frome Town

BEN Seymour was the hero for Dorchester Town as his 63rd-minute penalty handed the Magpies a 1-0 win and all three points at rivals Frome Town in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier South.

Cameron Murray was the architect, drawing a foul from Kris Miller to win the spot-kick before Seymour confidently scored his sixth goal for the club.

Dorchester were unchanged from the side that started the 1-0 win over Hungerford Town on Saturday.

After naming just 15 players on the teamsheet last time out, the Magpies included goalkeeper Jon Hill on the bench.

Fresh from having to battle to stay in front late on against the Crusaders, Dorchester were put to the test in the opening 10 minutes as Frome began much the brighter side.

Barring an ambitious shot from outside the area, the Robins barely tested Kingsley Latham all half with Dorchester infact working Latham’s opposite number James Carey on more occasions.

After winning a corner, Frome centre-backs Connor Roberts and Marcus Mapstone combined to half clear until the Robins conceded a free-kick 25 yards out.

Seymour, who scored a set-piece against Yate Town this season, struck his effort sweetly only to miss the target by three yards.

Frome won a corner of their own but Ollie Knowles overhit his cross as the hosts once more threatened without an end product.

Roberts had to be alert when Mapstone misjudged a header, preventing a Dorchester chance, before a Miller free-kick prompted appeals for handball, the officials waving play on in an entertaining but fruitless first-half for both sides.

Knowles was again at the heart of the action after the resumption, sending a free-kick just over the bar before shooting firmly at Latham from a good opportunity carved out after good work from Rex Manning and Ryan Bath.

Seymour almost capitalised on a moment of uncertainty for Carey, lobbing the hesitant keeper only to shoot wide after his initial touch forced him into an acute angle.

Antonio Diaz, who is yet to score for the Magpies, then sent a free-kick well over before the Magpies took the lead.

Murray, who was a constant menace to Frome, was the catalyst. His pass to Seymour drew a challenge from the retreating Miller inside the box, conceding a penalty and earning a yellow card.

Seymour then calmly stepped up to send Carey the wrong way for his sixth goal in seven games and a first in league competition since joining on loan from Exeter City.

Harry Kite might have scored a second, shooting wide when superbly placed following a clever pass from Seymour, but failed to find the target as Frome sent numbers forward in search of an equaliser.

The Robins’ pursuit of a goal caused gaps to open up and the industrious Murray led the Magpies on a rapid counter, only to see Seymour fire off target.

Frome pumped several long balls forward late on but the Magpies held firm for a much-needed three points, lifting themselves out of the relegation zone to 18th.

Dorchester travel to bottom side Staines on Saturday (3pm), the Swans having sacked manager Rob Easom in midweek.
