Dorchester Town Football Club will welcome the players, supporters’ and officials of the Metropolitan Police Football Club tomorrow afternoon for the opening Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division South fixture of the new season (KO 3pm)

Who are The Met?
Founded in 1919, the Met were originally a football club exclusively made up of players from the Metropolitan Police Service. After originally only playing friendlies and partaking in local cup competitions, they joined their first league, Division One East of the Spartan League in 1928. After county cup and minor league success, the Met transferred to the Metropolitan League before bouncing between the Southern and Isthmian divisions.

Playing their games at Imber Court since their establishment, the foundations of the club have recently changed. More recently, due to serving players not being allowed time off duty to feature for the team, the club have started allowing players from outside the service. However, they are still partly funded by a police staff lottery. This season will be The Met’s first in the Southern League for a number of years, after a dismissed appeal saw them transferred from the Isthmian league due to the summers non-league restructuring.

One to Watch
Max Blackmore has recently joined Gavin Macpherson’s side from Westfield FC. Whilst there, he showed an incredible eye for goal, scoring 42 times in the 2016/2017 season as well as another 48 in the last campaign.

Form Guide
The Met have played a total of 8 pre-season fixtures in the build up to the new season. They tasted defeat against Slough Town, Greenwich Borough, Molesey and last time out against Pheonix Sports. They were victorious against Egham Town, Frimley Green, Ashford Town (Middx) and higher league Hampton & Richmond Borough

The Magpies also had a mixed pre-season. It started brightly with victories over lower league sides Saltash United and Portland United before a draw against a Plymouth Argyle XI before three consecutive defeats against Yeovil Town, Torquay United and Winchester City.

Team News
The Magpies could hand competitive debuts to a number of new signings. Sean Stewart has joined from Blackfield & Langley, whilst Cameron Murray, Callum Thompson, Ben Morris, Josh Williams. Ash Pope could also make his first appearance as a full time Magpie whilst loanees Kingsley Latham and Cameron Allen are in contention. Exeter City loanee Harry Kite is unlikely to feature as he recovers from concussion, sustained in the Winchester friendly.
