MATCH PREVIEW: Dorchester Town v St Neots Town

BY: Tom Berry | @TJBerry95

Dorchester Town Football Club will welcome the players, supporters and officials of ST Neots Town to The Avenue Stadium (Sponsored by Clayson Scaffolding Ltd) tomorrow for this Evo-Stik League South Premier fixture (Kick Off: 3.00pm)

Who Are The Saints?
Originally formed in 1879, The Saints were the inaugural victors of the Huntingdonshire Senior Cup and went on to lift the trophy another four times before the turn of the century. After this, St Neots spent time in a number of different divisions as well as reaching the FA Cup first round proper in 1966, bowing out to Walsall.

However, during the 1987-88 season, the owners of the clubs ground sold the land to developers. The end of the season saw the Saints finish near the bottom of the table and sadly were forced to disband to clear its outstanding debts.

Football was back in the town soon after, when the reformed St Neots Town began to play competitively again in 1990. Since then, a steady rise has seen the club rise to the Southern Premier League and playing its football in their own community stadium.

Last Time We Met
Both sides went into Septembers fixture in poor form, however it was The Magpies who left Cambridgeshire still in it. The Saints hit five into the Dorchester net, who saw midfielder Ollie Griggs shown a straight red in the first half.

Form Guide
The Saints drew 2-2 with Bishops Stortford last time out and tasted defeat to Merthyr the previous Saturday. The visitors victory came over a month ago when they defeated Tiverton Town.

The Magpies come into the fixture after coming so close to defeating high flyers Kettering Town in midweek. Despite playing over 50 minutes with 10 men, Dorchester took the lead midway the second half before narrowly going down 4-3 to a late winner.

Team News
Midfielder Luke Winsper was on the end of a nasty challenge in the Kettering defeat and looks to be a major doubt for The Magpies. Steve Thompson will hope to have the influential midfielder back for Monday’s visit to Tiverton.
