Mark Jermyn excited with work rate

DORCHESTER TOWN 0 YEOVIL TOWN 1

Dorchester Town boss Mark Jermyn was happy with his side’s display despite a 1-0 loss to Yeovil Town in the Magpies’ first friendly of pre-season. The only goal of the game came around the hour mark from one of Yeovil’s many trialists that were introduced after the break.

For the home fans, it was a chance to see plenty of new faces on show and Jermyn, who played the first half before coming off with a slight shoulder problem at the break, felt his players showed great application throughout the tie.

Speaking after the game, he said: “We were able to get a lot of players on the pitch and we created chances.

“It gives us an air of optimism but all of these games are about work rate and shape.

“It wasn’t about the result and we are very happy with the performance. All the players did themselves justice.

“Some of the passages of play were lovely. It is certainly a different look with the personnel we now have, but we need to concentrate and work with the players we have.”

Seven trialists got game time for the county town side and there were also first run outs for Ben Wood and Nick Swann.

The latter left the field limping after a heavy challenge, but Jermyn stated that it was just a precaution.

The trialists will be given more chances to stake a claim in the squad and Jermyn feels his side is coming together.

He added: “We’ve now got to keep on going with it and over the next couple of games, get some of the trialists tied down.

“The majority of them did extremely well.”
